For the last time in 2009…

…jobless claims in the week just ended were 432,000. That is a decline of 22,000 over the previous week’s total. The recent rise in consumer confidence, the return to “growth” in the economy, and the leveling off of the unemployment situation likely foretells a robust first quarter of 2010 for the economy.

As we enter next year the unemployment figure is the figure to track. When it improves then the recession will be over, unofficially, in the minds of consumers. Going forward I will be paying close attention to the rate of improvement in employment, and also to the quality of jobs that are added to the economy.

In the mean time, happy new year to each of you and thanks for reading!

Jason
