That is a decline of 22,000 over the previous week&#8217;s total. The recent rise in consumer confidence, the return to &#8220;growth&#8221; in the economy, and the leveling off of the unemployment situation likely foretells a robust first quarter of 2010 for the economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">As we enter next year the unemployment figure is <strong>the<\/strong> figure to track. When it improves then the recession will be over, unofficially, in the minds of consumers.
