{"id":3849,"date":"2011-03-21T11:35:24","date_gmt":"2011-03-21T17:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonapollovoss.local\/?p=3849"},"modified":"2018-09-21T02:07:51","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T06:07:51","slug":"yemen-is-nearing-civil-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2011\/03\/21\/yemen-is-nearing-civil-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Yemen is Nearing Civil War"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Yemen&#8217;s conflict\u00a0 has largely fallen along the Muslim sectarian divide between Sunni and Shiite.\u00a0 The forces, mostly armed police, loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh have clashed with the citizenry of Yemen all while the forces of the army looked on.\u00a0 However, in the last day as Brigadier General Ali Moshen Al- Ahmar of the Yemeni army announced that he has joined the revolution on the side of the protesters.\u00a0 This is somewhat similar to what unfolded in Egypt in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The general happens to be President Saleh&#8217;s half-brother, however as General Moshen became more powerful over the last decade, Saleh has delegated more power to his own son and preferred successor.\u00a0 So in this time of crisis in Yemen General Moshen has mutinied to the opposition forces.\u00a0 Both sides in the conflict now seem roughly matched.\u00a0 Unless one of the two sides gives in it appears that Yemen is approaching a civil war.\u00a0 This is strongly in line with my <a href=\"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web2011\/02\/22\/what-my-intuition-tells-me-now-intuitive-assessment-of-middle-east-unrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intuitive Assessment of Middle East Unrest<\/a> published 22 February, 2011, there I said of Yemen:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">&#8220;Yemen to me feels like a nation about to descend into violent confrontation.
