{"id":419,"date":"2010-05-09T14:34:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-09T18:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intuitiveinvestor.com\/web\/?p=419"},"modified":"2018-08-19T10:08:13","modified_gmt":"2018-08-19T14:08:13","slug":"the-imf-loans-to-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2010\/05\/09\/the-imf-loans-to-greece\/","title":{"rendered":"The IMF loans to Greece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This afternoon it was announced that the International Monetary Fund approved a three-year $38 billion loan to Greece.\u00a0 The loan is the single largest amount ever given by the IMF to a single country.\u00a0 The loan is a portion of the monies being lent to Greece, with the rest coming mostly from members of the European Union.\u00a0 Like other discussions involving Greece right now, strict restraints are being placed on Greece and its governmental spending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Two questions come to my mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">1.\u00a0 Will the efforts of the EU and the IMF be enough to calm jittery investors?\u00a0 If the efforts are enough then expect the financial markets to rally in a big, big way.\u00a0 If they are not enough expect the financial markets to fall in the short-run.\u00a0 But in the long-run expect U.S. financial markets to do very well.\u00a0 This is because there is likely to be a &#8220;flight to quality.&#8221;\u00a0 That is, investors around the world will shift out of other investments and into the U.S.\u00a0 If you are a currency speculator then this will likely result in the dollar strengthening vis-a-vis other currencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">2.\u00a0 What will happen to Greece?\u00a0 Under far less austere budgets the country of Greece has teetered on the edge of anarchy and mini-revolution.\u00a0 Now with austerity being seemingly inescapable it seems as if some sort of discord is inevitable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Jason<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">P.S.
