{"id":4286,"date":"2011-05-23T16:25:48","date_gmt":"2011-05-23T22:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonapollovoss.local\/?p=4286"},"modified":"2018-09-21T02:06:16","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T06:06:16","slug":"television-is-more-important-than-movies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2011\/05\/23\/television-is-more-important-than-movies\/","title":{"rendered":"Television Is More Important Than Movies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">I went to go see a movie today and noticed something that I thought was very interesting: television is now more important than movies.\u00a0 How could I tell?\u00a0 All of the video in the lead up to the movie trailers was about upcoming television shows.\u00a0 Now I know that the networks just have announced their fall series.\u00a0 However, as I thought about it, the more I realized that it has been this way for several years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Even more surprising was that Ridley and Tony Scott have stooped and made Gettysburg for the History Channel.\u00a0 I say &#8220;stooped&#8221; because there was a time when a big time movie star would not star on television until the very tail end of their career.\u00a0 For the past 15 years they routinely have appeared on television.\u00a0 But directors?\u00a0 Only Alfred Hitchcock comes to mind.\u00a0 Television has become a more dynamic medium, such that one of the world&#8217;s biggest directors has made something for the tube.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">There are many reasons for this, but the primary reason, I am guessing, is that directors love the opportunity to fully evolve a concept rather than being limited to the 2 hour movie format.\u00a0 Not only that, but also, television studios now command tremendous capital.\u00a0 So big budget TV shows, series and events can be created.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">But why is this important?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">I feel that it is important because what has happened to the movie business, can just as easily happen to television.\u00a0 The villain in charge of the ruin, of course, will be the Internet.\u00a0 You see back in the dot.com era there was a large debate in the investment community about whether or not distribution or content was king.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Distribution is simply: &#8220;How the heck do I get programming to you?&#8221;\u00a0 Do I use the airwaves (broadcast television), cable, satellite, movies, or the Internet?\u00a0 Content is all of that programming that we watch through all of those distribution channels.\u00a0 Now we can definitively say that content is king.\u00a0 All of the distribution mediums mean nothing without the content and there is always a way to distribute.\u00a0 Content is KING.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">So who do the scraps left to distribution go to?\u00a0 Ultimately, it&#8217;s my feeling it&#8217;s going to be the Internet.\u00a0 The sole reason is the flexibility.\u00a0 You can watch when you want.\u00a0 You can view what you want.\u00a0 And you can do it from anywhere.\u00a0 Wow!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">As investors, the spoils are going to go to those who make the Internet faster, can put it wherever you want to be, and those who create killer content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">At the movies,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Jason<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I went to go see a movie today and noticed something that I thought was very interesting: television is now more important than movies.\u00a0 How could I tell?\u00a0 All of the video in the lead up to the movie trailers was about upcoming television shows.\u00a0 Now I know that the networks just have announced their [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4286","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the-blog"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4286","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4286"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4286\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4286"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4286"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4286"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
