{"id":459,"date":"2010-07-21T14:19:00","date_gmt":"2010-07-21T18:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intuitiveinvestor.com\/web\/?p=459"},"modified":"2018-08-18T17:37:29","modified_gmt":"2018-08-18T21:37:29","slug":"milestone-for-many","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2010\/07\/21\/milestone-for-many\/","title":{"rendered":"Milestone for many"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This morning President Obama signed into law the financial overhaul bill that has been debated for almost his entire Presidency.\u00a0 This marks a milestone for many.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">First, the investing public finally gets protections that are essential.\u00a0 With these protections in place the faith of the individual investor can begin to be restored.\u00a0 While it may not consciously affect individual investors immediately, this is critical in the long-run for the health of the financial markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Second, regulators finally get tools that will allow them to do their job.\u00a0 Notice I said job, singular.\u00a0 The sole job is to provide a trading environment that is equitable for all participants.\u00a0 That equanimity requires many things, but transparency is one of them.\u00a0 Now regulators have almost full transparency.\u00a0 Again, this is a good thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Third, financial institutions have many new rules and some new regulators to which\u00a0they are accountable.\u00a0 There will be a lot of bellyaching about a reduction in profitability and about the choking off of liquidity in capital markets and&#8230;and&#8230;and a lot more probably.\u00a0 However, the financial industry is super competitive and they will still find a way to make money in the long run.\u00a0 They will also still find a way of financing U.S. and worldwide capitalist undertakings.\u00a0 What is different is that the playing field has been leveled vis-a-vis the little guy and her regulatory protectors.\u00a0 Again, this is a good thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Fourth, I began the blog specifically calling for many of the changes that this bill puts into place.\u00a0 So for me personally it represents a milestone.\u00a0 I am very pleased to see that the final bill contains many essential changes.\u00a0 Changes that during my career as a portfolio manager I felt were essential for the long-term viability of the sanctity of the financial markets.\u00a0 Yea!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">I feel Congress has done the right thing.\u00a0 I feel that this piece of legislation will actually be a huge part of Obama&#8217;s legacy.\u00a0 Nice job all!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Jason<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning President Obama signed into law the financial overhaul bill that has been debated for almost his entire Presidency.\u00a0 This marks a milestone for many.
