{"id":4671,"date":"2011-08-15T21:08:46","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T03:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonapollovoss.local\/?p=4671"},"modified":"2018-09-21T02:04:44","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T06:04:44","slug":"have-the-financial-markets-turned-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2011\/08\/15\/have-the-financial-markets-turned-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Have the Financial Markets Turned Up?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">A brief post.\u00a0 Last week financial markets saw wild, wild swings, triggering widespread panic and a lot of traffic to the <em>What My Intuition Tells Me Now Blog<\/em>.\u00a0 In the midst of all of the noise I posted a, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web2011\/08\/09\/what-my-intuition-tells-me-now-brief-update-about-mood-of-the-financial-markets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brief Update About Mood of the Financial Markets<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 In that post I stated:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">&#8220;Before I make some sort of call as to a market low being reached I want to feel a sense of confidence in buyers, as opposed to elation.\u00a0 I also want to feel that those who were queasy have taken their investment expectations and monies elsewhere.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Where are we now?\u00a0 The last three market trading days have seen gains that have erased the drastic drops of last week.\u00a0 My current sense of things is that the majority of investors no longer feel queasy.\u00a0 Instead there is a sense of growing elation.\u00a0 I really don&#8217;t feel much confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Throughout the turbulence of the last six weeks I have remained invested.\u00a0 I still am a believer in U.S. equities as businesses are running lean and mean.\u00a0 That is, the expense structures are minimal, and revenues are growing slowly.\u00a0 That is a combination that generates profits.\u00a0 Furthermore, it seems as if U.S. businesses are finally hiring more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">And here is the potentially counter-intuitive thing.\u00a0 Now that the U.S. financial markets have absolutely gone through an acid test this year, they may finally be out of the woods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">First we had the Middle Eastern revolutions cascading throughout the late winter and early spring.\u00a0 Then there was the earthquake and nuclear crisis in the world&#8217;s third largest economy, Japan.\u00a0 Then the European debt crisis.\u00a0 Then the U.S. debt crisis.\u00a0 Then the U.S. credit downgrade.\u00a0 This is pretty close to a perfect storm for financial markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Yet, during the entire sequence of crisis the economies of the first world never dipped into recession.\u00a0 What&#8217;s more, the U.S. economy continues to log steady, if unspectacular, growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">If the series of events I listed above did not dislodge nervous investors from equities, what series of events would?\u00a0 In other words, the investors currently holding equities are those who want to hold equities.\u00a0 That means that it is highly unlikely that we see big market drops like we saw last week again anytime soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Jason<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
