{"id":477,"date":"2010-08-26T11:40:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-26T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intuitiveinvestor.com\/web\/?p=477"},"modified":"2018-08-17T15:42:17","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T19:42:17","slug":"under-the-microscope-again-jobless-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2010\/08\/26\/under-the-microscope-again-jobless-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Under the microscope again &#8211; jobless claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This morning saw the weekly jobless claims data reported by the Department of Labor.\u00a0 Claims fell by 31,000 to a level of 473,000.\u00a0 This exceeds the expected drop of only 10,000.\u00a0 The four-week moving average rose by 3,250 to 486,750.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Analysis:<\/strong> Clearly this is a good sign.\u00a0 All of the &#8220;chicken littles&#8221; have been predicting continued doom and gloom in the economy.\u00a0 A continued weak jobs market has been one of the principal concerns.\u00a0 Frankly, it remains one of my concerns, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Today&#8217;s number is less important than what happens over the next two weeks.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because one data point does not mark a trend.\u00a0 Nor, do two data points.\u00a0 Two points of information mark a straight line.\u00a0 Three points are needed to get any sort of strong indication one way or another.\u00a0 So I will be anxiously awaiting jobless claims data over the next several weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Importance grade:<\/strong> 10; jobless claims, and their close cousin, the unemployment rate, are the most important pieces of economic data to monitor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Jason<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning saw the weekly jobless claims data reported by the Department of Labor.\u00a0 Claims fell by 31,000 to a level of 473,000.\u00a0 This exceeds the expected drop of only 10,000.\u00a0 The four-week moving average rose by 3,250 to 486,750.
