{"id":479,"date":"2010-08-31T12:04:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T16:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intuitiveinvestor.com\/web\/?p=479"},"modified":"2018-08-17T15:41:06","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T19:41:06","slug":"home-prices-up-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jasonapollovoss.com\/web\/2010\/08\/31\/home-prices-up-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Home prices up again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Standard &amp; Poors&#8217; Case-Shiller Index of home prices was up for the third consecutive month in June.\u00a0 Specifically they were up 3.6%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Analysis:<\/strong> Many news headlines are reporting the data in the worst light possible by pointing out that this is the first time in 16 months that the rise was less than the month prior&#8217;s data.\u00a0 Big deal!\u00a0 That home prices are rising faster than the economy is growing (2nd quarter GDP up 1.6%) <em>is<\/em> a big deal.\u00a0 Homes are the largest purchase made in a lifetime for most people.\u00a0 That folks are willing to pay more for that purchase for 16 consecutive months is a sign that people are starting to feel that the economy is stabilizing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">I am not reading too much into this data, however, because the data are two months old.\u00a0 The economy two months ago looked stronger to most consumers than it does now.\u00a0 I would not be surprised if next months reading of the Case-Shiller Index shows a greater slow down.\u00a0 What the data <strong>do<\/strong> show is that when there is an absence of bad stock market performance, or other external shocks to the economy, that consumers are feeling more stable.\u00a0 When the U.S. consumer exists scramble mode the rest of the world, myself included, will breathe a sigh of relief.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Importance grade:<\/strong> 5; if this data were more timely the grade would be about an 8 or a 9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Jason<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Standard &amp; Poors&#8217; Case-Shiller Index of home prices was up for the third consecutive month in June.\u00a0 Specifically they were up 3.6%.
